SYNOPSIS
On 24 February 2022, Russia invades Ukraine. Borodyanka, 58 kilometres from Kyiv, is one of the most heavily hit cities, almost completely destroyed and with over 200 deaths in two months. A few weeks after the end of the siege, Banksy, the world’s most famous street artist and the French artist C215 arrive at Borodyanka. Among the destroyed buildings, Banksy produces: The Gymnast, a girl’s vault on the collapsed stones of a house and David and Goliath, a child who, with a judo move, lands a giant. The spray cans of C215 depict portraits of women and men who have shaped the history of Ukraine. Three young Italian restorers, with a workshop in Pavia, ran to save the works of Banksy and C215.
Director’s statement
“The documentary follows restorers through the long and challenging process of protecting the works of Banksy and C215 in Borodyanka, Ukraine. As soon as we arrived on site, we realized the urgent need and deep desire of the community to return to normal life. This realization inspired us to combine the stories of ordinary people with the works of internationally renowned artists—who drew inspiration from such people—to tell a story that transcends art and embraces human essence and the search for hope and rebirth.”
