SYNOPSIS

Real is a visionary and engaging filmic journey inside the disembodied world of the web, a parallel digital multiverse where everything in existence is transformed, from the physics of oxygen and carbon to the logic of bits.
It is a creative documentary that explores the transformation of the human experience within the digital age, shedding light on the many, sometimes disturbing, aspects of digitized and hyperconnected living. The protagonists –human, robotic and virtual –grapple with virtual relationships, digital employment, cybersexuality, automated and surveilled homes and cities of the future. They recount the culture of self-representation, new addictions and diseases, alienation and isolation but they also tell about identities free from the physical boundaries of the body. With an algorithmic and visually novel approach, this documentary is a surprising journey into our everyday science-fiction reality: how it feels to be human in a digital age.

Director’s statement

“I embarked on this project with the urgency of immersing myself inside the emotional, social and cognitive metamorphoses triggered by our relationship with digital technologies. Therefore, the film was conceived as a free and personal investigation of this unprecedented ongoing transformation, in which the cinematic gaze becomes a possible lens to explore our current condition as digital human beings. I felt that everything we regarded as real was falling apart, and I began to look for ways to represent this collapse.”
